FUZ-moto Scouting Michoacán, Mexico Jun 25, 2020

After Oxxo coffee just off the main plaza, the day began with a quick ride to the top of a hill called Cerro Hueco

An old mezcal factory

The plan was to take the curvy road past this old Mezcal factory deep in the woods near Ucasiro, madero, Michoacán de Ocampo. But after about 8km of bone jarring unpaved road --- which Jerry and I had enough of from day 1 in Jalisco --- we parted ways. Curves are more fun than viciously bumpy rocks. Jerry and I turned around at the factory and went back to enjoying the very good Michoacán Tiripetio highway. We met up with the other guys at the Vivall Café-Restaurante-Bar in Morelia.

That's the humble factory.
Did you ever wonder what's the difference between Mezcal and Tequila? Turns out Tequilas are a subset of agave based Mezcals made with Blue Agave (agave tequilana).
I thought Mezcal was a brand name, but now I see that it is another region-denominated product class like Champagne. See the education you get touring on motorcycles? Important facts these!

Ice-cream break in Yuriria at tocumich

In front of Convento de Yuririhapúndaro established in 1550 (470 years ago!) we lucked out by parking next to this great little ice-cream shop called "Desde Tocumich Plaeteria y Neveria" or just tocumich for short.

We were served by this very bright and outgoing young woman.

The variety of frozen fruit bars is amazing and apparently a specialty of Michoacán. If you ever make it to Yuriria, this is a special treat.

Dinner

We had dinner at Restaurant Café & Bar la Veranda at an outdoor table on the main plaza.

This threatening sky shows we were sensible to stop a bit early.

We stayed at Hotel Misión San Pablo which was quite comfortable and reasonably priced. This is the first time I've slept in a completely dark room with no windows. I went to bed early and slept quite long. Good! Because the next day is another long one.
