2026 North to the Nordics and Nordkapp, Mon June 29, 2026

Molde, Norway → Snåsa, Norway

Today I ride the famous road across the coastal waters in Norway called Atlanterhavsveien (the Atlantic Ocean Road), connecting the island of Averøy to the mainland via eight bridges across an archipelago. Like the 27 hairpins County Road 500 from four days ago, this is hard to appreciate from the road itself. Here are some aerial shots

I started riding to Bud after the fog lifted. I was worried that I might not see anything today, but as I got to the coast, the overcast lifted completely and the sky turned blue. The ride was scenic and as beautiful as advertized, but not easily photographed from the road. It's a very nice ride, but not wildly better than many of the more ordinary roads through the many, many fjords with their sheer walls and numerous waterfalls.

After the scenic part, I stopped at a grocery store to pick up some breakfast and have some coffee. There was a table inside where I could drink my coffee and eat a pastry. Refreshed, I continued on to more beautiful riding.

Today's route has only one ferry, Seivika-Tømmervåg/Fv680 (Duration 25min) schedule, and it runs every half hour, so no worries about that today. I should make the 10:30 or 11:00am crossing.
On the ferry, I talked to the attendant and he helped me set up a ferry-pass account. Now my ferry fees are automatically paid based on license plate scans.

After the Dromnessund Bridge, instead of contining on the main road 680 through Kjørsvikbugen, I turned right onto a very small, road Fjellvelen. This was unpaved, but really interesting with a nice waterfall. I was amazed to find good StreetView coverage of a this road complete with a nice picture of the waterfall I stopped to photograph.

Into Trondheim, I stopped near a big church, parked and walked around a bit before getting overwhelmed by the traffic situation. It took me a half hour of illegal riding to get out of there. Then a lot of road construction traffic made the ride annoying for a while before the ride turned into an E6 slog up to Snåsa. No pictures of this last 180 km. Sigh.

However the Snåsa Hotell turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It was very friendly, super comfortable, and came with dinner and breakfast included. I walked down to the fjord and walked around a sawmill and farm equipment import company. I saw some interesting, weird machines, then went back to the Hotell for dinner.

How am I doing relative to the plan?

The original plan was Trondheim → Mosjøen, Norway

But instead I did Molde → Snåsa, Norway (7h30m, 470km) I'm still about 210km behind the original schedule, but at least I didn't fall further behind.
