We had a really nice day of 20,000 steps walking around Torino, visiting the Mercato Centrale Torino (Saturday Market), then the LavAzza museum about the Lavazza family and the history of their coffee business. I got some ideas for future coffee machine projects... We tasted a coffee and cherry liquor. Walked through downtown, visited Kathi's bookstore Feltrinelli Librerie where she tried to order DVDs of some Italian movies she can't get in the USA. Then walked to Parco del Valentino where we waited for restaurants to open at 7:30. Talked to a women an played with her dogs at the dog run area in the park. Then walked to Scannabue which was recommended by Gabriella. Lots of Michelin stars, but no reservation available. Instead we went to Il Vicolo where they had a table available. This was a great choice. I really liked the energy there and a very comprehensive menu. The food was excellent too and not so expensive. Very full, too full for a gelato, we walked back to the apartment and fell hard asleep at 10pm. What a great day in Torino. It's a really nice mid-sized city (~1M people, half the population of Portland Oregon, but packed into an area you can walk across in an hour), much smaller than Milano but still big enough to fill multiple days.

We walked about 11 miles today. I started the GPS recording at the Saturday Market and it survived the entire day.

Walking to Mercato Centrale Torino

At the Central Market

The Mercato Centrale Torino is amazing. Similar to Jean Talon in Motreal Quebec, but so many shops crammed together under a few roofs. They organize all the same type of shops together. All the butchers, all the cheese vendors, the pastas, vegetables, etc. The competition is fierce and the prices are good. Tonnes of places to eat as well. Lots of clothing and hardware outside.

Lunch at Piattini Caffe Vini near the market

Piattini Caffe Vini is one of Gabriella's recommendations and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed our lunch here. Interesting if difficult to decipher menu.
