Day 6, Friday Jan 31, Barra de Navidad to Comala

Terry caught up to us last night and joined us for dinner. He was riding a new 2016 BMW R1200R and today he let me ride it! So, on this new bike, we set off, heading back inland towards the Colima volcano. Dave was fully up to speed today and the riding was wonderful. The farm land was a mixture of avocado orchards, sugar cane, and agave. Really pretty. The Casa Iztac hotel in Comala was a real treat; I highly recommend staying there. Best day of the trip!

Rest break along the highway at a bus stop somewhere

My camera GPS gives bogus locations for these shots. I don't know where it was, but you could see the volcanoes from here and it was next to an avocado orchard.

A perfect tree, alone in a field. Too pretty to cut down to clear the field I guess.

Here are a few shots of the new BMW R1200R that I was riding. Nice!
The ABS works a lot better than the R1150R, the suspension is better (conventional rather than telelever front end), and the motor is awesome. They got rid of the torque reaction and it's smoother. I think they have a counter-rotating balance shaft. It also revs to 9000 rather than 7200 for the 1150, so much more top end.

Dave Berney, our awesome Canadian guide.

Jerry irrigating the sugar cane fields. Seriously, I wonder how sugar cane and agave grow side by side. I always thought sugar cane required lots of water and agave was a desert cactus. Not so, I guess.

Nice shot of the volcano as Dave and I wait for the others to catch up. It looks like a bit of steam is coming out, but I think it's just clouds.

Casa Iztac Hotel

This hotel in Comala is run by a lovely couple. The guy is an artist and they are restoring the gal's father's home. Beautiful!

They let us park the motorcycles in the courtyard

Comala is a Pueblo Magico

View from the roof of the hotel looking up to the volcano. He's working on making a coffee-shop/veranda up here.

I didn't get any pictures, but a really good restaurant in Comala is Casa Pascual. A small, traditional restaurant with great food and service.
