Castle Château-Guillaume

The major interest of Château Guillaume
(map) lies in its roman dungeon dating back to the 11th century and enlarged in the 13th century. The fortress is said to have been founded by Guillaume X, duke of Aquitaine, father of Alienor of Aquitaine who may herself have been born there. Château Guillaume was among others the property of the La Trémoille Family.
After being dismantled under Richelieu, the castle was restored in 1878 by Countess of Beauchamp, born Lanet.

Suprise, I arrived in Le Mans on Monday after the race weekend! The place was a mess of campgrounds. I'm kind of glad I didn't arrive earlier.
