BREAKFAST Parkfield Lodge (continental) or Dos Hermanos in San Miguel (30 miles)
Mission San Miguel / Mission San Miguel Arcánge
We enter a military base (Fort Hunter Liggett) but access is fully open and nothing special is required (unlike in years past when a guard was posted). We can simply ride through but, of course, mind your speed!
Mission San Antonio de Padua, more Unfortunately when I just checked, the mission appears to be closed to the public but we might get at least a peak of the surrounding area and imagine what it was like 250+ years ago! This mission is 255 years old!! The mission is 3 miles off the main route.
LUNCH Whale Watcher's Cafe (96 miles)
Elephant Seal Viewing - two sights near each other
Hearst Castle / Reservations suggested!
The main magenta route heads back up into the hills to the east for some fun twisties and a good overview of the coast when you get to the top. If you're tired and want to get to the finish sooner, stay straight on the green route (highway 1). If you choose the green, you can see the elephant seals without the double-back the magenta route would require.
Estero Bluffs Shipwreck - You must turn right when you hit highway 1 and backtrack on the green route for about 3 miles.
