Day 10 Fløli → Lysebotn → Langenuen Motel & Camping, Stord Norway
I'm almost caught up to my original plan which was to be in Bergen tonight. I reached Stord about 50km south of Bergen, so I'm getting less worried about getting to Stockholm before my flight.
This morning, I got up early (5:45am), to make sure I would make my 6:45am ferry from Flørli back to Lysebotn. The weather looks nice and it's warm. I pack up the scooter and head out the same way I came in as that's the only way out of Lysebotn. Back though the tunnel, then up the 27 hairpin turns. This time I stopped at the top for some pictures (and I hoped coffee, but the restaurant was not open).
I retraced my route back 70 km to Nomeland where I turned left on Highway 9 — yesterday I arrived from the right. Along the way, I stopped at a couple of places trying to find coffee but everything is closed. Norway does not have a rural cafe culture. They barely have restaurants, and those you do find are usually closed. Careful on Country Road 500. I saw a sheep that had been killed by being hit by a car.
After turning only Highway 9, I rode along the Otra river for a while. I detoured up a side road to a Kafe, but it wasn't open. 9:30am on a Friday and coffee shop not open. Hmmm. A bit later, I stopped at a rest area on the Otra river: Honnevje rasteplass & Prima noapte în cort where you can walk out in the river where it flows over solid, bare granite. Cool place.
Back to more amazing lake views until the sky began to turn cloudy. I stopped at a grocery store in Hovden where I bought some food and got a coffee, then a little later stopped at a rest stop on the highway with a picnic table where I could eat my food and put on rain gear. It started raining just as I was finishing my food, so good timing. I rode another hour or so in the rain without taking any pictures. Then the rain stopped and I dried out. Waterfalls recharged, I took pictures of many, many, many waterfalls until I came upon Langfossen, Norway's tallest waterfall. This is a massive, 612-meter (2000 ft) waterfall in Vestland, Norway, that plunges directly into the Åkrafjorden fjord. It is famous for its massive size, unregulated flow, and roadside view along the E134 highway. Near the waterfall, stone workers were building a wall and path using traditional hammer techniques. Not a diamond saw in sight. Unfortunately, this work had the trail closed.
Near the village of Ølensvåg, I stopped to take a picture of a massive floating structure. Google Lens informs me this is a semi-submersible drilling rig.
A bit more on-and-off again light rain, and I made it to Stord, Norway where I have reserved a cabin in a campground, relatively cheap at about $90/night in Norway. The cabin is really nice with a kitchen and good facilities, but the bathroom is about 70 meters away which makes for a long walk in the night if you have to pee.
Today was supposed to be Stavanger to Bergen. Now I'm about 50km south of Bergen, so almost back on schedule after skipping Oslo.
Rain is forecast for all day tomorrow.

The only way out of Lysebotn is back the way I came in yesterday, so I got to ride back up those 27 hairpins. At the top, the restaurant was not open, so no early morning coffee for me. But I didn't have to pay for parking to take a few pictures.
