Wed Jun 10 : AMT Day 12 [ride] Avignon → Vercors

Today we head east into the Parc naturel régional du Mont-Ventoux and climb over the top of Mont Ventoux with several hundred insanely fit bicyclists.

But first we stopped for morning coffee in the town of Gordes. Gordes is a member of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France and is officially the "most beautiful village in the world". It is pretty, but I had no idea while we were visiting and I just enjoyed my coffee.

After failing to be suitably impressed by the most beautiful village in the world, we stopped by the Abbaye Notre Dame De Sénanque lavendar farm where we lost one of our group. We would rejoin at the top of Mont Ventoux.

Then up D164 to the top of Mont Ventoux where we took many pictures before heading down to find lunch.

In the town of Malaucène, they had closed the only road through town for some event (a market?), so we stopped for lunch.
I ordered snails which were really good. They were served in shells with a long fork for digging them out. I shared one with Ann who had her first snail and she didn't hate it. I think Kaare also had one.

From lunch we headed north on D938, D538, D757, D94, D70, back to D538, (stopped for gas), D164, back to D70, and finally D578 into le Moulin de la Pipe. The hotel/restaurant there was a rustic place that I really liked.
Our gas stop was at a garage that restores old Citröen 2CV (deux chevaux, 2 horses).
le Moulin de la Pipe has these cool, multicolored rock cliffs. We parked, checked in, then hiked to a waterfall, then back for dinner.
