Mon Jun 8 : AMT Day 10 [ride] Perpignan → Avignon
I think Tomaž is getting tired as we made good time this day. We stopped at a bakery to pick up food for a picnic lunch later, then rode kind of fast through Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc (Tarn Hérault) forests on route D908.
In Sommières we stopped at the river-side quai du Vidourle to have our picnic lunch.
Next, on to the historic Arènes de Nîmes, a huge Roman arena built about 2100 years ago.
We bought apricots (abricot) at a road-side fruit stand and got to our hotel rather early.
Our room had a really nice veranda overlooking the pool. Nice.
Dinner at Aubergine --- man it's hard to keep weight off while dining in France!

Today we are going to have a quick lunch. We stopped at this fantastic bakery to pick up stuff for a picnic later.
This is a Roman amphitheatre in Nîmes, built around 100 AD, shortly after the Colosseum of Rome. It is one of the largest and best-preserved Roman amphitheatres — BTW there are about 400 Roman Amphitheaters. 133×101 meters, 21 meters tall, holds 24,000 spectators in 34 tiers of terraces. Restoration began in 1786 and completed in 1853 (67 year project). Sting has played six concerts in the arena between 1991 and 2022.
This hotel is super nice with a veranda that has a view of the pool.
