2026 AMT France, Sun May 31, 2026

(ride day 1) Sun May 31 : AMT Day 2 [ride] Antibes → Aix-en-Provence (4h18m 247km)

We were up and at breakfast by 7:15am (uggh!), but the breakfast was very good with whole grain bread and museli with nuts (which would become my staple breakfast). The briefing began at 8:00am and we got out on time.

But, the first day of a big tour is always a learning experience.
We arrived 10h17m after departing, Google Maps time plus 125%!
The group got split up once costing aobut 30 minutes.
We were moving for only 48% of the day, spending 6 hours stopped.

We toured the Galimard Perfume factory where we learned a lot about fragrences and bought some perfumes.

We crossed the Pont de l'Artuby bridge which had an active bungee jumping operation going on, and I caught a video of a jumper. That was cool! I don't think I've ever seen a live bungee jump before.

We had lunch overlooking the Grand Canyon du Verdon which is beautiful and grand, but not "The Grand Canyon of Europe" as some have claimed.
At the lunch stop, there was a meeting of a Corvette car type club, so we saw dozens of Chevrolet Corvettes of all generations. Fun!

Then into Aix-en-Provence (I think that means the town of Aix in the province of Provence). We met up for dinner at 7pm walking to a place called Le Bistroquet. Kathi had a seared tuna with seaweed and creamy risotto (Tataki de thon rouge à la mangue, risotto crémeux) and Chris had Burrata crémeuse, fruits de saison, tomates, pesto de pistache (a caprese salad with pistachio pesto). For desert there was Crumble pommes, poires et abricots, glace miel amandes (apple, pear, and apricot cobbler with almond-honey ice-cream). Then we walked back to the hotel at 9:30pm, got to bed as early as we could for another early start tomorrow.
