We caught the #1 bus towards Principe Station, but decided to just stay on the bus all the way to Pegli, about 45 minutes. When we got there, sadly the gardens are closed on Monday. We sat, ate a croisant and coffee before deciding to continue onwards to Ventimiglia. We tapped onto the regional train expecting to transfer at Savona before continuing on to Ventimiglia. In Savona, we had a 40 minute wait and the next train was an IC (Inter City) which we didn't know does not participate in the tap-on tap-off system. But we were able to buy tickets on the train from the conductor. Unfortunately it meant we paid for the regional train (tapping out to limit the fare charged) AND the InterCity charge. Maybe 20 euros more. Anyway, we arrived in Ventimiglia about 3:05pm, walked to our apartment, and tried to contact the host. It took an hour for us to find the place, contact the host, and get let in, but overall the place is really comfortable meeting our needs for the next 4 days. After check-in, we walked into town, got food at Royal Instanbul Kebab (almost the only place open in the afternoon, and really quite good) then bought Chris's velcro tape, and shopped for food at Conad City. Back to the room, get phones on chargers for a bit, then Chris went out for a longer walk around at sunset. Soe cool pictures of the port area and the big boats docked there. Read my book for a while. Made dinner reservations for tomorrow at Pasta & Basta. 15,700 steps today.
Also this afternoon, we checked at the train station for the status of trains on Friday for our trip into Nice. This Friday, the 29th, is an all Italy Train Strike day. Sigh... The ticket guy said the French SNCF trains might be affected as they might not be let into Italy on Friday. But they won't know until Friday, so we'll just hope for the best. The backup plan is to take a taxi about 12km to Menton across the border in France, then catch the train from there, assuming they can turn trains around there, or maybe simply reverse on the same track? We'll see.
