We are ready to depart about 9am, but again we are sorting out tire problems. Also Joseph's Ducati has a damaged front wheel bearing along with not holding air. I think it just can't take the abuse of Guinea roads the way Joseph rides them.
Sometime between 10:30am and 11 we're back on the move towards Dakar, 500 km to go.
Seven hours later, at 5:58, we ride into our Hotel Onomo Dakar. The Senegal highways are well paved and fast. I rode a lot of it with Rosina. It's refreshing to ride with someone who's judgement matches mine. I think she does a great job of deciding when to pass and when to hold back.
We've moved 17.3 degrees of longitude from Accra to Dakar and we're still in the same timezone, so sunset is 1h9m later. We arrived before sunset. No night riding for two days, yay! We're in Dakar only one day late despite losing two support vehicles (actually towing one of them the last 700 km or so) and suffering many flat tires on the Ducatis. Seven riders finished the Quintuple Quest:
But... we are now half way. Rest for a day, then we do it again in reverse!
This evening, I went out for an hour walk around this area of Senegal. It was weird being the only white guy walking down dirt alleys in the dark, crowded streets. Also, quite hot and humid. Not so easy to be out walking. I was happy to be back in the hotel with A/C and a soft bed!
Day 9, Tambacounda to Dakar
