Tried to stop at a store, but nothing was open.
Shortly after leaving Ostrava Slovakia heading to Hungary, I stopped at a Lidl to pick up some food. Got cold milk, OJ, and a seed loaf. Lines in the grocery store were long and nobody spoke any English. Selfie in the parking lot after with my food.
Tried to stop at a restaurant in a small town for lunch, but it was closed "Operation from technical causes long term closed until further notice!"
Tried to stop to eat at a fancy resort with lots of rich kids and super fancy lodge/cabins. They found someone that spoke English for me and told me I could have a drink, but not eat any food from the buffet. They tried to direct me to a restaurant about 30km in the wrong direction for me. I used their restroom and moved along.
OMG what a day! Super varied pavement, about 30km of almost unpaved. Sweepers, nice pavement, high speeds up to about 110kph but averaging 60--75 with a lot of 90.
Almost dropped my phone taking video downhill when the pavement suddenly turned into a pothole field.
Some routing fiasco with OSMAND. Google thought road was closed, but it wasn't, so I did take OSMAND's route which was also google's route after I updated their closure.
This has been the best riding of the trip so far.
Autopark is interesting. Reception guy speaks very English well and has lots of recommendations. Dinner at the local restaraunt was quite good.
Salty bean soup, pasta with chicken. Really good. Then tram into Kosice for 1 euro, walked the town for about 90 minutes, then tram back, walk along highway back to autopark. Nice night. Warm, 20c.
Good internet.
Pavement got really bad. Almost dropped my phone making a video with the road was downhill and turned to crap. It was "technically paved" but a lot of the pavement was gone and lots of holes. Forest was beautiful and road got better.
Opened up into farms with mountains on both sides of a very wide valley.
Military trucks on the road.
My "hotel" in Kosice was a campground with a good restaurant and mobile homes. I had a mobile home which was pretty nice. Internet was good. Parked inside the campground which seemed quite secure, near a giant Weber BBQ.
Had a delicious, if salty, soup and perfectly cooked chicken and pasta. Then went out to walk Kosice. Walked a km or so to the tram, bought a ticket and rode into town. Walked all over the nice, small city, had icecream.
Saw some kids taking pictures of their motorcycles with a church as a backdrop. The girl had a Ninja 400.
Looks like a film festival was going on. Lots of posters.
Interesting bookstore for Kathi, but too late for it to be open.
River down the middle of the street/plaza with lots of kids playing in it.
Cops are always in pairs and unarmed. The place seemed very peaceful and nice.
Bought another ticket and caught a tram back in the dark.
I like Slovakia. Tomorrow I cross into Hungary.
