# 11:45 flight canceled, chose 3:15 which canceled when we arrived at the airport at 1:30. Then got a 7:30 flight on Quantas back to Melbourne with an overnight airport hotel at 10pm.
# With the first cancelation we walked the Salamanca market, got coffee, and then went to the Botanical gardens. A bit of rain but not too bad.
Jetstar Cancellation Hell
Remember how our early AM Jetstar flight from Melbourne to Hobart six days ago was cancelled,
so we spent five hours in MEL instead of walking around exploring Hobart?
Well, this morning we expected to leave for the airport at 10:00am to catch
an 11:40am flight to MEL and then make a connection to Cairns CNS where we
had a hotel reservation with a bunch of other Lizard Island participants.
We were eager to spend the evening socializing with old and new friends.
But, the flight is cancelled and we're invited to rebook. I got on the
website and rebooked to 3:40pm connecting into CNS much later, JQ 948 MEL 8:20 PM -3h20m→ CNS 10:40 PM.
So much for socializing and enjoying the rather expensive hotel in Cairns.
Looks like we'll get in quite late, then basically get up, check out and
head over to catch our flight to Lizard.
But, on the bright side, we get a bit more time to explore Hobart this morning.
We packed up, checked our bags into storage at Quest, and went out for breakfast.
We get to walk around until about 2:15pm before we need to catch an Uber to HBA.
Coffee Downtown
We stopped for coffee at this nice coffee shop Hobart Coffee Roasters.
The waitress took a bunch of nice pictures for us.
Salamanca Market
Walking along the waterfront back towards our hotel through the Royal Botanical Gardens
Wild Galas eating flowers out of the grass
Along the coast towards the back entrance to the Royal Botanical Gardens
Views of the Tasman Bridge
Pretty bird

Cancelled again
Well shit.
Our 3:40pm flight is cancelled too. Double cancelled today and no connection to CNS tonight.
Looks like we'll be waiting in the airport another 4 hours until a 7:20pm departure on Virgin Australia.
Then, maybe our rebooked Jetstar flight to Cairns tomorrow morning at 6:10am will actually depart.
Given that 3 of our last 2 Jetstar flights have been cancelled, we are worried about making our flight to Lizard Island tomorrow morning at 11:30.
We eventually made it to MEL at 10:30pm and checked into an airport hotel for perhaps 5 hours
of sleep before getting up at 4:30am to check if Jetstar has cancelled again. If it does,
our plan is to buy a last minute Qantas flight departing 8:30am QF702 which should
arrive CNS at 11:00am. That would screw up Craig's plans so he'd be doing some last minute shuffling.
The alternative is to buy that Qantas flight now for $1600 and pay $200 to cancel it if
the Jetstar flight leaves on time. I didn't want to do all that to lose at least $200,
and I got lucky. If you can call any of this Lucky.
