Day 2 (Apr 29) Bologna → Urbino

This route is very roughly reconstructed from GPS tags on images and my memory. I actually think I wandered around the countryside quite a bit more than shown.

Bologna City Center Tower

After leaving Bologna, I had some confusion with the toll highway entrance and managed to enter without getting the right ticket. Getting off at Imola, I was fined. A few weeks later I was able to clear it up online after I got home. Going through Imola was tricky as there was a motorcycle race in progress. I couldn't figure out how to get a ticket, so I pushed on into the countryside.

Leaving Imola

Northern Italy has spectacular farm-land scenery with gently rolling hills.

Lunch

Cannot remember where I had lunch.

Before San Marino

San Marino

The Republic of San Marino is one of those enclave microstates in Europe.

B&B Ai Cipressi near Urbino

I lucked out with a fantastic AirBnB near Urbino. The couple has renovated this old farmhouse and the rooms are really nice. They were also full of information about the nearby town of Urbino as well as where I should go riding the next day.

My dinner of bread, cheese, and milk made the locals laugh, but it's what I really like about Europe.

Walled City of Urbino

With the outbreak of World War II the city suffered no bombing, thanks to the large red cross painted on the roof of the Ducal Palace and an agreement between the Germans and the Allies.
