Here's my packing list. The Ducati has 2 large side cases and a top case. I've found that to be more than enough room for everything, so no backpack. I usually do some pretty long days, so I don't want the fatigue that comes with wearing a backpack. But I do bring a small, light backpack for walking around in the evenings and can carry some extra things on my back in a pinch. I also bring a medium sized, thin nylon duffel bag that can be stuffed with large volume things and bungied/strapped to the back seat. When it gets really hot, I take off my crash suit and carry it that way.
The Honda SH350i has a lot less storage capacity, just a small top box and under seat volume, so I'm probably going to have that duffel behind me after we part ways and can't use some of the Ducati volume ;-)
