2022/09/14 Dolomites day 3 loop north to Vipiteno

My right hand is pumped and tired from grabbing the brakes so many times yesterday. There were quite a few sharp, hairpin turns.

View from my window this morning. I think those are Dolmites poking up into the clouds over there.

Plan for today is a meager 235km that Google thinks takes only 5.25 hours

No saddlebags today as I'm based here for 3 nights, I can leave my baggage behind.

Lago di Carezza

Lago di Carezza is a small, spring-fed alpine lake framed by a staggering view fameous for its many colors

Bus stop to get off at the Carezza ski area

Today so far it has been overcast and a bit hazy so the views are missing. Earlier there were several times when the views literally took my breath away. I gasped at the incredible sites. But they were in places where it was very difficult to stop to take a picture. So you'll just have to settle for this.

I'm at the halfway point and groceries have been acquired. It's interesting that in this area German seems to be the first language and all the signs are written in German first and then Italian. Also interesting is that Google has it reversed, always showing Italian above German.

Lots of cowbells. I thought I heard my phone ringing

let the switch back turns resume

It's called "Panorama Hütte" so the views from here are probably amazing. Too bad the visibility is about 50 meters.

Passo Giovo / Jaufenpass --- there's lots of amazing skiing up here...

Hobbit house?

I've descended out of the clouds. I'm a bit wet. Visability was as low as 20 m and top speed was about 40 kph. There are a lot of bikes up here. Heading into the clouds

This would be fun to arrange a tandem parasail flight. Maybe next time I'm here. It's €150 for a 45 minute flight. This location is "Vinschgau Valley – Texelgruppe Nature Park"

I really like the construction of some of the houses/barns up here. The wood work is exquisite. The guy building it nodded appreciatively as I stopped to take this picture :)

Another place where the GPS sent me down someone's driveway. This one is actually a road through town that cuts a short loop off of sp98.

Look what peeked out of the clouds

More of those literally breath-taking views

A very tired, very happy, motorcyclist

There's a pretty big sawmill across the street from my hotel. And some pretty Dolomites down the way.

Home, 256km, 5:23pm, planning for 250km/day is just about perfect. 8.8% excess km due to navigation screwups.
