FUZ-moto Scouting Michoacán, Mexico Tue Jun 23, 2020

Left Jerry’s house in Ajijic and met up with Ray, Randy, Mike, and Terry at the Sierra Shop.
Then Ray led us out towards Michoacán.
About 520 km.

Police checkpoint #1

This was the first of 8 police checkpoints we encountered as we drove along the southern border of Michoacán between Aratichanguio and Zirándaro.
We didn't want any awkward questions about taking pictures, so I only surreptitiously got this one.

The next morning Terry wanted to drive about an hour south and see a colossal stone head near Altamirano across the border in Guerrero, but hotel staff advised us that the border was closed near there and we probably would not be allowed to come back.

Crash!

Ray checking out Randy's bike. It was a bit ground up, but still ridable after we tightened the front brake line.

Randy had a tough day. Scraped knee and elbow and bruised ribs. But he would go on to ride with us all of the next day and half of the next after that before heading home.

The crash was running wide right at that gouge in the pavement behind Michael.

This CAT is in pretty sad shape.

Outside Hotel Valmar Huetamo

Here's a family of five riding a bike past our hotel. The girl on the back has a baby on her left arm.

We stayed at Hotel Valmar Huetamo.
